An Appreciation Meal for the Right to Life Volunteers

Today we went to an appreciation dinner with Grandma. She volunteers with the Right to Life effort and they were having a banquet for all those who volunteer.



Water's Edge and Outback Cooking

The meal was at lunch time, they rented out space in a really cool old fashioned lodge themed restaurant. There were round tables all over the room with chocolates in the center. People filled the large room and the whole place hummed loudly with talking. Some people were busy setting up the sound and screen and others were getting boxes full of  papers set out on some tables. We were greeted by a lady wearing purple, Grandma signed in and we set our things at one of the tables.

Making Peanut Butter

This picture was taken after the fact. I didn't think to take pictures while I was doing it so I had to set it up this way. :( 

So a couple days ago I got this notion that I wanted to make peanut butter. There was a deal going on at the grocery store for buy one get one free on a jar of peanuts. My unsuspecting Dad brought home the nuts and immediately I declared I was going to make peanut butter. Well I didn't make it that day or the next or the next and before I knew it there was only half a jar left! This morning at breakfast Dad was spreading some all ready made peanut butter on his pancakes, a privilege we children rarely enjoy. Well I wanted some of that peanut butter so I asked Mom if I made peanut butter today if I could have some right now on my pancakes. She said yes, the deal was struck so I had to be sure to make the peanut butter today. And I did.

The Joys of Siblings

Just an account of what we three middle siblings did today at Grandmas:

Well we went out on the river again. This time we took with us Jill, Jex, and Pappy. We started off headed for Nelsons Fishery, the same place my grandma used to boat to to get groceries. I wanted to go inside and see if there was somebody that might have worked there a long time. I wanted to ask this friendly white haired old man if he had any recollection of my grandmothers family and to see if he could tell us about our great grandfather - who I thought must have surely brought his boat full of fish there to unload. (Grandma later told me he actually took it further down river to Allen's) When we arrived we tied our boats and dogs to the root of a tree growing on the shore laden with oyster shells.

A Hiking Trip and A Helicopter Ride

Okay well, I know it has been quite a while since my last post. Things get busy when you're travelling. We have made our rounds from Alabama, Louisiana, Arizona, Louisiana, and Alabama again... it seems like we've been all over the continent! I have missed our church and playing piano. I heard they are having a bluegrass concert this month and I will be missing out on it! :(

Well, let me tell you about one of two very  interesting hiking trips we went on. (short version)

Merry Christmas!

Well it seems as if everyone has something to say about their Christmas this year and I am not one to be left out. This Christmas was, not surprisingly, warm - ish. Here in the desert things don't tend to get very cool, a light jacket has served all my needs this season. We went with my grandparent to their church a few miles down the road. They had a Christmas program with songs and scripture readings. After it was over I just couldn't keep my hands off of the piano any longer, (I hadn't played for about two weeks) and played... not quite to my hearts content, for we soon left for home.

Though I am not so fond of the materialistic side of Christmas I did enjoy the presents. :)

I had no idea we would receive so many gifts but the first time I walked into the house I couldn't help but notice them. There's no stopping my grandmother. :) The presents inside of the boots are our traditional gifts from my parents, our very own carton of eggnog. Dad got one too, dairy free even, Silk Nog is what it's called. You should have seen his face when he saw it. :)

Hidden Treasures

This is where I'm spending my time right now. Except I'm in the city part of it so I don't see all of this anymore. This was on a stop off of the highway.

I'm sitting here at my grandpa's house out in the desert, (it's quite amazing he has a front yard... with green grass. I have seen so many yards of pebbles lately.) and just enjoying life. I'm happy to see my older brother again, he's got a job out here at Chick-fi-la I am really glad about that. My little brother is so cute! He is going to start walking soon. *grins*

Skirts Vs. Pants

NOTE: Since writing this post back in 2011 many things have changed in my life. I no longer wear only, or even mostly skirts. I still have the same convictions about being a woman, and being proud, and standing out in the world as a Christian but the way in which I live out these convictions have changed.

Taken earlier this summer, my sister and I having fun in our new dresses.

Well It's been decided, I am officially a skirt/dress girl. I've decided to wear (almost) only skirts and dresses. Probably the first thing you may think of is "She thinks it's immodest to wear pants." or something along those lines. Well that's not exactly it. I came about this decision gradually over a course of years.
